Nuvo Tunyi comes from a farming background, where agriculture was the primary source of livelihood. The family had limited and irregular income, and like many others in the village, faced challenges due to lack of stable employment opportunities and limited access to alternative sources of income.

 

Nuvo came to know about the project through the Assam Rifles, which played a key role in mobilizing community members. Motivated by the opportunity to learn new skills and earn a better livelihood, he joined the bamboo craft training.

 

During the training, he gained new skills in bamboo craftsmanship, which helped him explore income-generating opportunities. The training provided practical knowledge and enabled him to start thinking about sustainable livelihood options. After completing the training, Nuvo has shown improvement in both his skills and understanding of marketing. He is now better equipped to create bamboo products and explore ways to sell them, practices he was not familiar with earlier.

 

A key achievement following the training was the formation of a group enterprise. Along with other members from his village, he became part of a 50-member group enterprise named Kura Enterprise, established through the Social Welfare Department. With the support of the Assam Rifles, trainees from Kikruma village have been setting up bamboo product stalls during various occasions. Through these efforts, they have collectively earned approximately ₹9,000–₹10,000 so far.

 

He has also experienced positive changes in his personal life, including greater involvement in household decision-making and an overall improvement in family well-being.

 

Currently, the major challenge he faces is the lack of machinery required for bamboo production. To address this, he aims to access the necessary equipment in the future, which will help increase productivity and improve his income.
