Chanchithung comes from a family of five, including his parents. His father works as a pastor, and the family has a modest but gradually improving socio-economic condition, with a monthly income of around ₹18,000–₹20,000. Despite this, the lack of employment opportunities in the community remained a major challenge, limiting stable income sources and growth prospects.

 

Chanchithung came to know about the project through a community member, Suzanne, who informed him about the SIDBI–REACHA bamboo training at Jotsoma. Motivated by a strong interest in learning new skills, he joined the training with the aim of gaining knowledge in bamboo handicrafts and exploring better livelihood opportunities.

 

During the training, he gained in-depth knowledge about different types of bamboo and the machinery used in crafting various bamboo products. The project also introduced him to MSME registration and market linkages. After completing the training, REACHA supported him in registering under MSME, which enhanced his understanding of enterprise development and opened pathways for future business opportunities.

 

Before the training, Chanchithung had limited knowledge of bamboo handicrafts. However, after completing the program, he developed the skills to create bamboo products using machinery and improved techniques. His approach to work has become more informed and skill-oriented compared to earlier practices.

 

A significant transformation in his journey is that he is now associated with the REACHA as Project Coordinator and Master Trainer. In this role, he actively contributes to project implementation and skill training, while also supporting his family financially. His involvement has improved his confidence, professional growth, and overall family well-being.

 

Currently, he faces challenges such as the lack of access to essential machinery required for manufacturing bamboo products. To overcome this, he is saving money with the goal of purchasing the necessary equipment, which will enable him to start his own production and expand his livelihood opportunities in the future.

 

By improving local talent into trainers, the project goes beyond livelihood creation- building a self-sustaining ecosystem that empowers the communities.
